Howard County is covered by eleven fire stations, each responsible for providing fire, rescue and emergency medical services to a portion of the county. This area, known as a first due area, is broken down into smaller areas, known as box areas.
The eleven stations are broken down into two battalions; the first battalion covers the eastern portion of the county, and the second battalion covers the western portion of the county. U.S. Route 29 is the dividing line.
